The power department suffered major destruction of property at Assolna village after a tree came crashing down on a power transformer in the wee hours of Thursday, as the department has claimed to have suffered losses to the tune of Rs 15 lakh during the last two days.

Most parts of Assolna had to go without power supply throughout Thursday as electricity officials and personnel were seen working overtime at the spot to restore power supply. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday when the tree came crashing down on a power transformer. The impact of the tree fall was so intense that the transformer was found to be in bent, while two steel high tension poles were damaged, besides three other poles. Executive engineer, Santosh Lolienkar told The Goan the department sustained losses to the tune of Rs 10 lakhs at Assolna alone, adding that the department has suffered a loss of over Rs 15 lakh since the three days due to inclement weather conditions.
